New Buffalo Boys Soccer won a hotly contested BCS Division game at Home against Howardsville Christian on Monday moving them another step closer to their first Conference title.
The game was back and forth with both teams probing for an opening until mid way through the first half when Matthew Bayonne was able to poke a ball free to Nick Keen who made no mistake from 5 yards out to give the Bison a 1-0 lead that they held into halftime.
The Bison came out of the break with high energy and after coming close on several occasions Jacob Nerada set Matthew Bayonne through on goal and he finished with a low shot to the corner doubling the Bison lead.
Howardsville battled back and were able to cut the lead to 1 with 10 minutes to play but the Bison were able to see out the game with some scrappy defense and good ball possession to preserve the win.
The victory comes on the heels of a big week where they were able to dispatch long time rivals Lake Michigan Catholic 4-0 (Goals: Bayonne 2, N. Keen 1, Joe Wick 1, Assists: Bayonne 1, N. Keen 1, Harrison Bourne 1) and Michigan Lutheran 8-0 (Goals: Jacob Nerada 3, Bayonne 2, Keen 1, Miguel Meracdo 1, Wick 1)
New Buffalo is in the drivers seat for the Conference lead with an undefeated conference record of 6-0-1 (9-1-1 Overall) as they head to Covert on Monday for a high stakes Divisional matchup. The Bison come back and finish the week with 2 BCS Non Division games against local rival Bridgman (at Home Thursday 10/3) and Friday away to Berrien Springs.
The Bison finish the regular season with back to back BCS Division games Monday away at Lawrence and Home Tuesday 10/8 6pm versus LMC (Senior Night)
