CASSOPOLIS HIGH SCHOOL: 1
New Buffalo tried to continue their current winning streak as they traveled to Cassopolis for a BCS Divisional contest. The Rangers have always been tough on their home turf and Wednesdays match was no exception. New Buffalo started strongly for a 4th straight game when in the 9th minute Sotiri Margaritis collected a defensive clear into the corner a returned a perfect cross to Zane Lauricella who headed the ball into the goal over the outstretched arms of the Ranger keeper. The next 20 minutes of the game saw New Buffalo keep up the pressure and create numerous opportunities but with 12 minutes remaining in the half Cassopolis drew even on a close range shot that New Buffalo could not get a good foot on to clear out. The Bison responded quickly when Patrick Griffin found Lauricella open down the right side and Lauricella with a great effort was able to put the ball in on the near post to put the Bison up 2-1. New Buffalo again continued to put pressure on to close the half but were unable to extend the lead further and the 2nd half started with only one goal separating the two sides. The second half saw New Buffalo again creating opportunities to put the Rangers away but could just not find the back of the net. Cassopolis, buoyed by only being down one goal and thinking the equalizer was within reach stepped up the pressure and the Bison defense started to bend but fortunately did not break. With only seconds remaining and darkness falling the rangers won a free kick from 20 yards out and put a shot to the upper 90 but Gaige Rice was able to parry the ball away and keep the Bison ahead to the finish. With the win New Buffalo moves to 2-1 in the Division with one to play against Howardsville Christian at Home on Tuesady 10/4.
